Adoption Story By Gladney: Caitlin

Caitlin's Adoption Story about her Adoption Plan for Her Son.

Everything happens for a reason.  I’ve told myself that just about every day for the past six months. To say that my life was turned upside down a year ago is an understatement; my life did a gold medal-earning Olympic Triple Full Layout in about .5 seconds. But you know what? It happened for a reason.

My name is Caitlin. I got pregnant right out of high school, because there obviously isn’t enough to worry about after high school.  I was lost and scared. I spent the first couple of months keeping it a secret from my family and friends. And after a really long story about broken hearts, losing my mind, and gaining a lot of weight, I decided that an adoption would be the best thing for my son as well as myself. And I was absolutely right. He is thriving and happy and so beautiful. And so am I. I knew going into this that I would give away a tiny, perfect part of myself; but I had no idea that a strong, brave, and wise woman would take that place. And I am very proud of this woman. I made an incredibly hard choice and I want to help other girls and couples through this same journey as my caseworkers have helped me through mine.

Now, my future plans are to go on to college and receive a degree in sociology. I also plan to get a masters in counseling. My career goal is to work for The Gladney Center for Adoption as a birth parent caseworker. Throughout life, you discover what your passion is, whether it is music or taxes or the universe or plumbing. I love to sing, cook, watch sunsets, and read when it’s raining. But this year, I discovered that my true passion is helping people.
